ABOUT JANE BIBERMAN
Jane Biberman is a Bucks County-based journalist with an affection for 4 legged animals who she nurtures as if they were her own children. Two donkeys, one cat, one horse and one dog are all part of her household. She told me once that donkeys are very smart and affectionate and make excellent companions for horses and mules as well as people.
ABOUT LAURENCE SALZMANN
Laurence Salzmann is best known for his documentary photography that covers a broad range of subjects from Jewish Communities in Eastern Europe to Cuban Wrestlers and now donkeys. When he went to Peru as a Fulbright Photographer (2016-17), he spent time in Maras, a town in Cusco’s Sacred Valley to document the town’s way of life. There he photographed donkeys used by the villagers to bring back their harvests of corn, alfalfa and cart heavy bags of dried salt from the salt flats for which the town of Maras is famous.
When his friend Jane heard about the donkeys of Maras she encouraged Laurence to bring one back for her. That not being possible he opted out to create this photographic as a way of sharing his photographs of donkeys with her.
More about Llamas & Donkeys can be found in Salzmann’s recent book of the same title.
