The photographs here were taken in the Comunidad Judía Darkei Torah - Prado Medellin in 2013. The synagogue, founded by Rabbi X when he left Bello, is now a community that has flourished, with bakery, school, and kosher kitchen. .
I was invited to share Passover, one of the most significant holidays in the Jewish calendar. The images capture the morning service, where men and women pray in separate sections, adhering to traditional practices. The congregation gathers in their prayer shawls, their devotion woven into each ritual. Children are central to the synagogue’s life, their presence a powerful reminder of the continuity of tradition and faith.
These photographs also reveal how this community maintains a profound connection to global Judaism. The symbols of Passover—matzoh and wine—link them to a shared heritage that transcends geography. The scenes move through the lifecycle of the holiday, from solemn prayer to joyous celebration, offering a glimpse into the rhythms of Jewish life. When members cannot travel on the Sabbath, they sleep over in the synagogue.
